Justice Rising Gala - Benefit for children of war

Nicole Watts shared at Church this past weekend about #JusticeRising = serving children of war.

JR believes education is the most powerful tool to effect lasting change in communities affected by war. Come 10/22, 5–9PM to their gala for all ages.

Engage the stories of the children featured in a photo exhibit & help in reaching our evening fundraising goal of $50,000.

Today, Justice Rising operates seven schools serving over 1,400 students. Over the next five years, we plan to build 40 more to reach nearly 6,000 at-risk kids. buff.ly/2gK3c24

The River Hopes: Let's Get this Party Started.

Unstuck. It’s been almost three years. My husband and I came back from living and serving overseas in the fall of 2014. It was supposed to be only a year, but God had other plans as our parents health declined. Jim figured out how to make continued ministry to pastors in Asia work…commuting.  I’ve been finding ways to be useful, and knowing the Lord has things to teach me in transition. But, last December a handful of  The River  women prayed after church about how we could pitch in with the Refugee crisis... and... something started brewing: "The River Hopes" In January Pastor Todd invited some folks together to talk about our direction regarding outreach as a church. We know  the church is individual believers in community , and not just those few who happened to make it to an evening meeting, so... The consensus was that we should have a better grasp of  what we’re already doing  before we decide where we should concentrate moving fo...

12th Day of Lent: Seeing God’s Heart for Justice

Yesterday, we looked at the term "social justice" and how a correct understanding it of it from God's perspective means "rightly ordered relationships (with God, with one another and with the earth) in order for His creation to flourish.   Here is a timely reminder of how knowing God's word and God's heart for justice transforms cultures, nations and the world!!! Billy Graham & Social Justice "Last week Billy Graham passed away at age 99. For a Southern Baptist preacher raised at the height of Jim Crow, Graham's opposition to racial segregation was both courageous and extremely controversial.  The opposition to Graham began in 1952 when he said, "There is no scriptural basis for segregation"—a direct refutation of popular the...

Day 11 of Lent: Seeing God’s Heart for Justice.

From Lyn Woodruff, posted in the River Prayer Reflections Texting Group. If you'd like to join, write to info@riversouthbay.org or post a comment. Wealth" can be found 1,453 times in 1,273 verses of the Bible "Justice," in contrast, appears 1,576 times in the Old and New Testament in 1,379 separate verses. Justice is mentioned twice as many times as "love" or "heaven" -- and seven times more often than "hell." By the numbers alone, it's obvious that justice is a pretty big deal to God. But what exactly is God’s heart for justice? Skye Jethani has currently unpacked this attribute of God in his “With God Daily” meditations and he has given me permission to share them with you all!!!  Thanks, Skye!! We hear the term Social justice all of the time.  And today, it has become a ubiquitous phrase that speaks more about politics than faith. Case in point:” A very popular news commentator recently told his audience, “I...
